Leo Köppen is a multifaceted filmmaker, musician, and visual- performance artist based in Leipzig, Germany. His work explores the intersection of technology, narrative, and the human psyche, informed by his background as a hypnotherapist. A lifelong creator working across film, music, painting, and performance, he examines raw emotion, societal boundaries, and primal human needs. His projects often generate psychological intensity that unfolds in the viewer’s mind, frequently employing elements of horror and atmospheric pressure.Since founding Leosarts in 2012 — later evolving into Abraxas Studios — he has produced an extensive body of films, music videos, theater works, and live music performances, including four studio albums released under the pseudonym the Woman Inside. Standout projects include his collaboration with director Bart Hess in 2019 on the music video “the golden tree” and his latest short film Cosmic Chord (2026), which received a nomination at the Atlanta Experimental Film Festival and was a semi-finalist at the Berlin Indie Shorts Festival. Further key works encompass the short film Das Welt-Dilemma (2011, broadcast on MDR), the feature film Die Leo Köppen Show (2013), the feature take me down (2017), the short film my strange and dark desire (2016), the theater piece Dead Whore (2020), the art performance die 100 Leute show (2023), and the theater production TV Total Banal (2024, direction, acting, and music).
